The owners of local estates donated the money to build this Gothic Revival church and its interesting stone manse, but William E. Dodge, Jr., whose nearby villa was under construction at the time, also donated the architect. He had hired James Renwick, Jr., the designer of Manhattan’s Grace Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to build the house he would call “Graystone,†two blocks from here, and also engaged him to do these buildings in his spare time, as it were. But, of course, the architect didn’t stint with either his time or his talent.
