You have to consider more than merely the colour and pattern of tiles when you are planning your scheme. The texture and finish of the tiles plays a considerable part in the overall look of the room. The warmth of rustic terracotta goes very well with unbleached muslin, wooden floors and coarse woollen throws. Square ceramic tiles are the most common type, but for variety in a run of basic tiles, arrange them in a diamond or brick-wall design, or mix with the same type in a contrasting colour.
