The apartment consisted of a modern-sized living room, a small foyer and a kitchen. To give the dining entry more definition and to conceal it from the living room, a handsome curtain room divider was constructed. To save the busy occupant the job of making her bed at the eleventh hour, a “bedroom” was provided in the form of a Murphy bed, and storage area hidden behind a stunning armoire. This allowed the dual-purpose sofa in the living room to serve as a guest room when needed.
While the furnishings are not in the luxury category, they are all substantial and elegant looking. (The best way to call attention to a room’s limitations is to furnish it in a makeshift manner).
Attractive window treatment is also a clever one it creates additional storage area. A gold and white color scheme and a controlled use of pattern also contribute to the sense of space and serenity.
An older couple returns to city living
COMFORT, charm and a warm and hospitable graciousness these are usually the most important qualities required by an older couple who have already lived in a series of homes. Eventually this couple will move back into an apartment, and since most available apartments exist in new high-risers, chances are that they will rent an apartment similar to the floor plan illustrated on these pages. And they will immediately be faced with the challenge of breathing character into boxy rooms lacking architectural embellishment, of transforming a dark corner of the living room into a delightful spot for dining, of creating throughout a personal and interesting atmosphere.
