Holiday Decorations
There is nothing easier or more festive than a Christmas tree covered with hundreds of lights. I love the way the lighted tree gives the house a magical glow. You almost don’t have to do another thing, but of course, we all do. Since I live on an island, a lot of the commercialism of the mainland misses us. It’s easy to concentrate on the spirit of the holidays, making gifts and decorating our homes and visiting with friends and, in general, feeling a sense of community.
For all of us, wherever we live, the holidays are a time of traditions, treasures, treats, reflections, friends, and family. It’s a time when many of us are moved to enrich our lives by adding to the joy or comfort of others. And, while most of us are so busy we can’t imagine adding one more chore to our lives, we do it all. We make the Christmas cookies, we scour the stores for the perfect gift, we visit a sick friend, we decorate our homes, we remember family.
Keep It Simple
If you can’t imagine doing anything more than throwing a few greens on the mantel or a wreath on the door, you might like to know that my favorite decorations come from putting ordinary things together or simply coming up with a new way to do the familiar. The following are some quick and easy ideas for decorating your house with greenery.
Don’t be restricted to traditional pine boughs for fresh greens to decorate throughout the house. Mixing pine garlands with boxwood, eucalyptus, juniper, lemon leaves, and other evergreens has become increasingly popular for wreaths and other decorations.
