Making a concertina
When you have pasted the entire length of your measured length of wallpaper, checking that there are no areas where the paste is thin or dry, take the pasted paper ( 84-85) and loop it into a concertina shape, making the folds about 75cm (2ft 6in) long. When you get to the end of the paper, fold it back against itself so that the pasted sides are touching to ensure that this does not stick to the wall as you work your way down.
If you are only working with a short length, fold the ends into the centre, but be careful not to crease it as you go.
If you have never attempted wallpapering before, start with a wallpaper that has an uncomplicated pattern, such as these wide stripes. A simple design makes joining the edges a relatively easy task.
Stripes, like a plain paper or one with a small, random pattern, do not need matching up so it is simple to cut lengths straight from the roll.
